Rules for Candidates Nominations
The contest is open to all writers, essayists and commentators anywhere in the world whose published work has an important focus on Latin America or Hispanic American issues.
Up to three publications may be submitted as a sample (in English or Spanish).
Entries must state clearly where the articles were published.
Consideration will be given to the intellectual content of each article, the persuasiveness of the language used, the type of publication in which it appeared and the reach of the author.
Self-published articles and articles published only in weblogs ("blogs") are not permissible.
Authors may nominate themselves. Submissions may also be made by an assistant or a third party on the author's behalf and with his/her consent.
Article(s) must have been published in the last five years.
List the name, current position and contact information for three references that our panel of judges may consult.
Entries may be submitted by e-mail to alberdi@hacer.org or by mail beginning on 1 June 2008. Entries must be received (or postmarked) on or before 15 September 2008. Nominations by mail should be send to:

All submissions must include:
- An Alberdi Award sumbission form (download it here: .DOC .PDF)
- A copy of the books and/or articles written by the nominee (except that your are nominating a book you already submitted with your application last year. In that case we already have the book in our files).
- The nominee's resume.
A total of USD $2,000 will be awarded to the winner. The decision of the judges and HACER will be final. The winner will be invited to an award ceremony (while attendance is encouraged, it is not mandatory to receive the prize).
